Karina Fischer, flauta & Paola Muñoz, flauta dulce
In 2013, after premiering the work of the same name by Italian composer Gabriele Manca, Karina Fischer and Paola Muñoz form this flute and recorder duo devoted to the performance of new music.
Both performers, with a vast experience in contemporary performing practices, converge in the motivation to explore a universe of new sonic possibilities offered by these two families of instruments, generating a new poetic within the Instrumental Renaissance that emerges with New Music in the 20th century.
In this way, Silvio Ferraz dedicate them Por la ventana el viento in 2014, after which the duo sets up a collaborative work with various composers, based on the research of the bass flute and the Paetzold and Helder recorders.
After the financial support of Universidad Católica (VRI) and Fondo de la Música, Movimiento Paralelo is able to commission new works to composers Cristian Morales Ossio, Andrés Núñez, Pablo Aranda, Juan Carlos Tolosa, Jorge Pepi-Alos, Gabriel Brncic and Nicolás Kliwadenko, which alongside the works by Manca and Ferraz, make up the tracklist of their first CD as a duo.
Between Air, Clay and Wood of Certain Flutes is an interdisciplinary project that brought together outstanding artists from Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Guatemala, France, Italy, England, Scotland and Singapore for the creation of an audiovisual installation, at the Norman Rea Gallery, York, during January and February 2021. Due to the pandemic, visits were restricted. For this reason, the authors, recorder player Carmen Troncoso and visual artist Richard Kearns, decided to make a digital version drawing upon the same elements present in the installation, replicating that immersive experience. Richard Kearns developed the idea using a Unity gaming platform. Juan Francisco Troncoso modelled flutes in 3D, and Carmen Troncoso recorded the soundtrack with different flutes.
